Window 7 launch... fast facts
This week sees the launch of the faster more stable Windows OS, we have compiled some fast facts for those thinking about upgrading.
Benefits
- You'll find Windows 7 is better and faster than Vista.
- It also packs several new and notable features that boost productivity, usability and fun.
- Windows 7 looks pretty much like Windows Vista and that's a good thing because there's almost no learning curve when you shift to the new OS.
- It'll run OK on later-model Windows XP computers, as long as the PC is fitted with at least 1GB of RAM and the chip has a speed of 1GHz or higher (check whether your computer can handle Windows 7 here).
- However, if you computer is older than 3 years it's really time to invest in a new machine. Newer systems are more suited to Windows 7, optimised to run on the latest dual-core and quad-core processors such as Intel's Core i5.
- There are four different editions of Windows 7, each scaled to suit different uses and prices : Starter, Home Premium, Professional & Ultimate.
- If your PC is currently running Windows Vista Premium or above, you will qualify for a discounted upgrade Windows 7 package.
- Or if you bought your PC after June 26 this year, you may be eligible to get a Windows 7 upgrade at no cost, apart from shipping charges (conditions do apply).
