Our main event from last month was Wayne’s trip overseas to attend the annual Connectwise Summit in Florida along with a combined holiday with wife Vanessa. Wayne reports on his adventures and experiences below. Our closing times are above. How to avoid Storm Season disasters over this holiday break!
 Storm Season is approaching and IT Associates has some tips on how to protect your equipment from a range of weather events during this time. Summertime is fun time, but also the peak time for thunderstorms, lightning strikes, power surges, brownouts and blackouts, all of which are bad news for your electronic equipment. Although computer problems occur throughout the year, this severe weather presents the greatest danger to your computers and electronics. These events will increase the likelihood of complications that will threaten your equipment, data, productivity and financial standing. Unplugging all computers, modems, printers, and telephones etc from power and communication lines will help minimise the risk of a power surge to your business. The purchase of equipment such as surge-protect power boards will also strongly minimise the impact of an electrical problem during this Christmas and New Year’s break. Uninterruptable power supplies (UPS) are a must have for servers, helping to protect data and equipment against critical power problems by supplying clean and reliable power sources to these avenues. Congratulations to Internode for winning the Best Tech Awards 2010!
More than 11,000 people voted in the broadband category, rating their ISPs according to reliability, customer service and value for money. Results ranged from very bad, to very good with the deciding category being customer service. According to the results: • 96% of people who indicated they'd used Internode said they'd recommend the ISP to someone else. • 80% was scored in the reliability category • More than 14% of votes were dissatisfied or very dissatisfied with customer service. For Internode there was only a 2% dissatisfaction rating. This, in contrast with big name brands including Telstra (30% dissatisfied or very dissatisfied) and Optus (17% dissatisfied or very dissatisfied) is an incredible achievement. • More than 96% of its users were happy to recommend the ISP to someone else.
Wayne attends ConnectWise Partner Summit in Orlando, Florida.
I caught up with 'the boys' for several nights of good old English beer and got to see my football team “Middlesbrough FC” get beaten by the team at the bottom of the league. Things are really not going well there at the moment but I did meet the new head coach Tony Mowbray and got my picture in the local paper! Our time in the US was spent in Orlando, Florida and was split into both a holiday and a work trip where I attended the ConnectWise Partner Summit. The main message of the Conference was based on the evolution of cloud computing. Cloud computing is essentially a means of hosting your computing power on the internet and connecting to it from an internet-enabled device wherever you may be. As this is an area IT Associates is investing heavily in, I spoke to several industry leaders to get their take on what is happening now, what the future holds and what we as a company need to be doing to maintain our leading position. According to the PC & Tech Authority, Internode users can't say enough good things about the ISP, topping customer satisfaction ratings and earning first place in the PC & Tech Authority Best Tech Awards 2010. 
During our trip, my wife Vanessa and I travelled to the UK and the US. During our time in the UK we had the opportunity to catch up with family and friends who we hadn't seen in over 3.5 years and I even managed to catch with a long-lost cousin who I hadn't seen for 20 years, thanks to the magic of the internet and Facebook!
